App name checker
Check whether an app name is already used on the App Store and Google Play, see the apps with similar names, and catch the naming rules both stores enforce. Free.
How it works
- Searches both stores for the name in the country you choose.
- Treats a name as taken when an app's name, without punctuation and the usual “– tagline” suffix, is the same.
- Lists apps whose names contain yours, so you can see what you would be confused with.
Questions
- Can two apps have the same name?
- The App Store does not allow two apps with the same name; Google Play does, but a duplicate is hard to find in search and can draw a trademark complaint.
- How long can an app name be?
- Thirty characters on both stores. The rest of your pitch belongs in the subtitle (App Store) or short description (Google Play).
- Is this a trademark check?
- No. A name no app uses can still be someone's trademark. Check your country's trademark register before you commit.
