What is a freemium app?

A freemium app is free to download and use, with a paid upgrade for more features, more usage or no ads.

Most of the revenue in both app stores comes from apps that are free to download and sell something inside. The hard part is the line between free and paid: too generous and nobody upgrades, too stingy and nobody stays long enough to want to.
