What is CAC (customer acquisition cost)?

CAC is the total cost of winning one paying customer — not one install, but one person who pays.

If you spend $500 on ads and get 400 installs of which 10 pay, your CPI is $1.25 and your CAC is $50. A business works when lifetime value is comfortably above CAC; a common rule of thumb is at least three times.
